Elements
Shogo Ota
2017 Granada Artist Production, UC Davis
Elements (2017) Ota’s work is known for its silences, and what is provocative about the productions of this play I have been working on, in California and elsewhere, is the way that even silence is culturally different. The 2017 production was rehearsed over several months, developing each scene collaboratively with the actors in them. The show ran in a festival of intercultural US/Asian performance (with an electrovocal performance from Hawaii/Japan, and the Taiwanese National Ballet Company), and provided a focal point for a larger academic conference on embodied aspects of inter/transcultural performance.
This production is touring to Bogota in September 2018.
